Trigonometric functions generalise ratios to angles of any size, with identities, graphs and general solutions of equations.
They are central to Class 11, to waves and oscillations in physics, and to entrance exams.
The angle subtended at the centre of a circle by an arc equal in length to the radius; π radians = 180°.
Because the functions repeat periodically, so adding whole periods gives further solutions.
